Blessing of Halla Setanta

Most Rev. Bishop Gerard Clifford conducted a Liturgical Blessing in our new school hall on Friday October 28th, which was officially opened by the former Ceann Comhairle and local TD for the area Seamus Kirk. All 290 pupils were on hand for the ceremony which began with a procession through the guard of honour provided by the pupils of the Junior School.

Our Principal, Mr. McDonnell praised the spirit of community partnership which supported the redevelopment of the school and thanked the Board of Management and in particular the chairman Fr. Gerard McGinnity. He revealed that the new hall would be known as Halla Setanta and the new library and PC room would be called Seomra Bríde. Both names were selected from a competition run in the school which asked for suggestions from the older pupils.

Fr. McGinnity in his address singled out Mr. McDonnell for his dedication to the school and thanked him sincerely for his hard work from which current and future generations would benefit.

The Blessing was followed by light refreshments for all the guests and parents. The pupils enjoyed minerals and crisps and an extended lunch break in the beautiful autumn sunshine.
