School Newsletters 2011/12

Newsletter No. 5, 17th January, 2012

Child Protection Policy
An annual review of the school’s Child Protection Policy has been undertaken. This policy is readily accessible to parents on request.

Milk
This term milk will cost €10. If you wish your child to receive milk we would ask that the appropriate amount be paid to the office by Thursday, 19th January. We would encourage parents, where possible, to continue ordering. A minimum order is required to make ordering viable.

Christmas Tree Decoration
Once again our pupils excelled in the Louth C.C. Recycled Christmas Decoration competition with 4 winners. Ben Cronin, Hannah Turnbull and Niamh McAvoy were all winners in their categories and Amy Mills got 2nd place in the overall competition. All the children received goody bags and reading vouchers and their creations can be viewed on the school website
Well done to all four participants!

St Vincent De Paul Food Appeal

We would like to say a big thank you to all families who donated towards the St. Vincent de Paul Christmas food appeal. St. Vincent de Paul is extremely appreciative of the generosity of our school community and many families in our locality benefitted from your kindness.

Family Fun Quiz Reminder-Tues Feb 21 7.30pm

Please find enclosed a ticket for our Family Fun Quiz which will take place in the Halla Setanta on Tuesday, 2st1 February at 7.30pm. Following on the successful format of last year, each team must be made up of at least one pupil from 3rd to 6th class. There will be a prize for the top three teams on the night and a raffle will take place during the interval when refreshments will be served. Donations for the house raffle on the night are greatly appreciated. The quiz is open to all families and we would encourage parents in the junior classes to ‘team up’ with pupils from 3rd to 6th where possible. If you intend to enter a team on the night please return the €20 entry fee to the school office.

Retirement of Mrs Rankin

On December 21st, we bid a fond farewell to Mrs Rankin, our deputy principal who retired after 38 years teaching in Scoil Naomh Mhuire. A special mass attended by parents, past pupils, friends, family and the entire school was celebrated by Fr. Gerard Mc Ginnity. The readings were given by Ann Gallagher and Robert Brennan, both past pupils who were in Mrs. Rankin's first class in 1973. The school choir conducted by Mrs. Farren, assisted by Ms. Hanafin and accompanied by Orla Mc Geeney on the organ, provided the beautiful music for the mass. Following the ceremony, Mrs Rankin planted a tree in the school grounds. This was followed by a presentation in Halla Setanta by Bronagh, (whose uncle was in Mrs. Rankin's first class) and Eva and Renee, (the youngest pupils in the school) to make presentations on behalf of the parents and pupils.Fr. McGinnity and Mr. McDonnell both praised Mrs. Rankin for her dedication and commitment to the pupils of Knockbridge School during her time here. Mrs. Rankin thanked all in attendance and spoke of the great joy it was to work in the Knockbridge community. Much to the delight of the children, she was then very surprised when Santa himself arrived with a very special gift for her.

Swimming

The final day for 3 class swimming will be on Monday, 23rd January. Swimming for 2class will commence on Thursday, 2nd February. A group of 6 lessons will cost €45. This can be paid weekly at €7.50 or for ease of administration it can be paid in full to the office.

Items required for swimming: swim hat, goggles, swimsuit, towel. School tracksuits can be worn on swim days. Aquatics is part of the School Curriculum and therefore absences should be certified.
